Common questions

For individual and joint accounts, only one individual needs to qualify as an Accredited Investor for joint accounts. To meet the qualifications, individuals must have a personal income exceeding S$300,000 per year (or its equivalent in foreign currency) over the past 12 months. Alternatively, they may qualify with net personal assets exceeding S$2,000,000, with up to S$1,000,000 of this amount attributable to the net value of their primary residence (or its equivalent in foreign currency). Another qualification criterion is having net financial assets (net of related liabilities) exceeding S$1,000,000, which generally includes bank deposits, investments, or easily liquidated assets.

For corporate and trust accounts, eligibility is assessed based on net assets or shareholder composition. A corporation qualifies if it has net assets exceeding S$10 million in value. Additionally, a corporation or entity can qualify if its entire share capital is owned by one or more individuals who are Accredited Investors.

Your completed W-8BEN will be valid for the year in which it is signed plus three years.

For example: If you opened an account and signed a W-8BEN form on July 30, 2024, the form will be valid until Dec. 31, 2027.

If there are any changes in your circumstances that result in any information on the form to be no longer correct or valid, you will need to complete a new W-8BEN form with updated information.
